How
did you first become interested in your line of business? What is your background?
I have studied various healing arts for some time. For many years, I've studied
the use of herbs and food as medicine, energy work and aromatherapy. Massage really
appealed to me as I've always enjoyed working with my hands, whether it be building
cabins, stone carving or crochet. I spent many years backpacking and traveling
before realizing that I wanted to make a difference in society by providing healing
therapy. What is it about your work that you enjoy most? The mind/body
connection is fascinating to me and I can really appreciate the fact there is
always so much to learn. With clients, I can see the physical changes in their
bodies from receiving regular massage. People who have come in with shoulders
up to their ears, backs that felt like brick walls or necks with limited range
of motion, who after a time, their bodies become softer and they actually develop
a glow to their faces. It is when clients come in regularly that I see the
most changes. For instance, clients come in who have a lot of anxiety and after
several months of regular massage, will tell me that they notice they aren't getting
as stressed and anxious anymore when confronted with life's little challenges,
such as dealing with traffic or when something happens at work that would normally
really stress them out. Seeing those changes are a joy for me in my work.
Another thing I've noticed is that people who have never exercised or taken care
of their bodies will start a work-out plan or seeing a nutritionist after getting
regular massage. Massage seems to help people get back in touch with their bodies.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category
and area? * My sessions are charged by the time, not the type of massage.
Unless a client has a request for a specific type of work, all massage is a combination
of techniques that will best suit their needs at the time of their session.
* Each client gets the full time on the table, meaning if you schedule one hour,
you will get a full hour on the table. I do not include the intake process as
part of the actual massage time. * I use warm towels for the feet and neck
and also use hot packs. My massage table has a heat pad on it because as clients
relax, they usually feel cool. However, I also keep a fan for those who tend to
get too hot! * I use organic and paraben free massage creme that doesn't feel
greasy on the skin. * My intake process and any postural evaluations are free.
I also spend a lot of time researching my field and staying up to date with continuing
education training. * My service is consistent and I return calls promptly.
* When a client comes in for a session, that is their time they have paid,
I keep the session completely focused on them. * I am the only massage therapist
in San Diego who has training in James Waslaski's orthopedic sports massage and
am certified in orthopedic massage through Whitney Lowe's OMERI (Orthopedic Massage
Education & Research Institute). How many locations do you have and do
you have plans to expand? There is only one location in Mission Hills.
What type of payments do you accept? Cash, checks or credit cards
(American Express, Mastercard & Visa). Where do your clients come from?
My clients come from Mission Hills, Hillcrest, downtown San Diego, La
Jolla, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, El Cajon, Burlingame,
North Park, South Park, Lakeside, La Mesa, Los Angeles and there are even a few
clients who come regularly to see me when they are visiting from overseas.
What type of clientele do you work on? The majority of my work is geared
towards helping relieve pain from repeptitive use injuries or stress in a manner
that is relaxing yet effective. However, I also provide strictly relaxing style
massage, reflexology and offer spa treatments. My clients include professionals,
atheletes, musicians, dancers and people who are generally active. I work on men,
women and young adults. Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I am the owner and massage therapist. What are your hours of operation?
Monday - Friday, starting at 10 am and accepting the last client at 6:30. |
